The prayer prompt for today, as the season of Lent begins, comes from a story from Genesis 18, when Abraham cajoles God for mercy toward the city of Sodom. Again and again, Abraham makes his appeal … though always prudent in the humility of his approach! “Abraham answered, ‘Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.'” (Genesis 18:27, NRSV)

Playful God, cajole me into joining in the fullness of life.

On this day when I do not feel made of star dust, show me the mark of love you have put upon me.

If I feel overwhelmed by my smallness, tickle me into a smile, remind me of my belonging in the world, and whisk me up into the whirl of your embrace. Amen
